Charles Melvin Chapman Jr. was born on September 4, 1962 in Anniston, Alabama. At the age of 3 years old Charlie moved to Arnold, Missouri and began attending First Baptist Church. Growing up in the church Charlie actively participated and served in many capacities both as a child and an adult. As a Sunday school teacher, Awana Activities Leader, Upward Basketball Coach, Youth worker, and Deacon, Charlie modeled for so many what it means to “serve the Lord with gladness”. On July 25th 2008 Charlie went home to be with the Lord after a ten month battle with cancer.

Charlie will forever be remembered for being a great friend, loving father, devoted husband, and most importantly a child of God. His love and devotion to God and his passion for students was evident in his life even as his time on earth drew to an end. As a Care Group Leader in Synergy Student Ministries at First Baptist Arnold Charlie connected with, and impacted, many students’ life with his authenticity, compassion, humble spirit, and evident walk with the Lord. Charlie gave countless hours to be used by God to influence teenagers through events, retreats, mission trips, and private counsel. At the request of his family this scholarship fund has been set up in his honor to help teenagers experience the thing that Charlie cherished most; a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and the privilege to tell others about Him.
